Mazama girls in consolation championship

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Mazama Vikings finished each half strong en route to a 57-48 victory over Cascade and will play for the OSAA 4A Girls Basketball State Championship consolation title on Saturday at Gill Coliseum.

The Vikings outscored Cascade 32-17 in the second and fourth quarters combined to bounce back from Wednesday’s loss to Banks.

Senior LeAnn Valenta finished with a double-double, scoring 17 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. Mazama out rebounded Cascade 41-33, including 24 offensive boards, nine of which came from Valenta.

Mazama’s opponent will be top-ranked Madras, which beat Tillamook 47-32. Madras was upset by Philomath 34-32 in the quarterfinals.

Megan Morris had 14 points and Hannah Reynolds put in 10 points in the Mazama win.
