Triad loses in OSAA quarterfinals

BAKER CITY, Ore. — A strong third quarter propelled Horizon Christian past the Triad Timberwolves 75-59 in the OSAA 1A Boys Basketball State Championship quarterfinals Thursday, ending Triad’s attempt at back-to-back state title game appearances.

The Horizon Christian Hawks (26-4) outscored Triad 21-10 in the third period to build a 60-41 lead entering the fourth.

Sam Anthony led four Hawks in double figures, scoring 22 points on 10-for-16 shooting and nearly earning a double-double with nine rebounds.

Triad (22-6) was led by Gabe Ovgard’s 14 points, with teammates Thomas Holland, Jeffrey Briscoe and Austin McGrew scoring 11 apiece.

The Timberwolves now play Imbler in Friday morning’s consolation semifinal at 9:00 AM, while Horizon Christian takes on Country Christian at 8:15 PM, with the winner playing in Saturday night’s state title game.
