SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon Dept of Fish and Wildlife has announced plans to release 200,000 Chinook smolts into the Coast Fork Willamette River on March 12. Wildlife officials expect a return of between one and two thousand Chinook in 2014. Fish harvesting, along with the presence of hatchery fish, dams and changes to habitat have combined to cause drastic drops in the Chinook population.
