Wrestling: Henley sends 13 to defend title

MURPHY, Ore. — The defending state champion Henley team qualified 13 wrestlers for the 2012 OSAA State Championships with top four finishes at Saturday’s regional meet in Hidden Valley High School.

Mazama will bring six and Klamath Union four to the OSAA State Championships Fri. and Sat. in Portland.

Among the champions were Henley’s Tyler Scott (106 pounds), Zech Bresser (113 pounds), Ronnie Bresser (120 pounds), Zorg Lustalet (132 pounds), Harmon Heater (160 pounds) and Phillip Morgan (182 pounds).

R. Bresser and Morgan are defending state champions.

Fellow Hornets Cody Wright, Calvin Tillery, Carlos Hernandez, Emilio Peck and Drake Dow finished high enough to make state.

Klamath Union’s Tee Nguyen won the 126-pound weight class. He will be joined by Bee Nguyen, Alex DiBrito and Jacob Klein who all placed in the top four.

Mazama didn’t win an individual regional title, but will still bring a slew of wrestlers. Kaleb Winebarger, Jesse Harris, Aaron Boatright, Chase Anderson, Trevor Derra and Josh Cox qualified for the state meet.

Henley won its first state title last year, beating second-place Sweet Home by 35 points. Klamath Union won the first four state titles (1948-51) and in 1954.
