Southern Oregon visits Danny Miles Court

Owls men large

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — There’s only one game on the No. 2 Oregon Tech Owls men’s basketball team schedule this weekend, but it is a big one.

Cascade Conference rival Southern Oregon travels to Danny Miles Court for a 7:00 PM tip against OIT, trying to avoid losing to the Owls for the sixth straight time.  Furthermore, the SOU Raiders hold the CCC’s fourth spot, keeping it in position to host a conference tournament game.

It will be the second meeting between the two schools, with Oregon Tech (22-3; 11-2 CCC) winning in Ashland 69-56 on Jan. 7.  The last SOU win was a 74-61 victory in the 2008-09 season.

Voice of the Owls Bobby Thompson joined 92.5-FM KLAD’s Wake-Up Crew Friday morning, providing some statistical evidence of OIT’s dominance in the series.

SOU (15-9; 8-5) boasts the conference’s best scorer, Eric Thompson, who averages 20.0 points per game.  It is the 14th best average in the entire NAIA Division II men’s basketball ranks.

The Owls have seen winning streaks this season of 11 games and, most recently, seven games, which was snapped last Friday with the 81-66 loss at Concordia.  The loss knocked OIT from the No. 1 spot in the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.

Bobby Hunter led three OIT double-digit scorers in the first meeting with SOU, scoring 19 points in 36 minutes.  Thompson led SOU with 24 points, shooting 8-for-19 from the floor.

Game time is 7:30 PM from Danny Miles Court, with the pre game broadcast starting at 7:00 PM on 92.5-FM KLAD and following the women’s game on 960 the Sports Legend.
