Smoke expected across 97 South of La Pine

LA PINE, Ore. – Fuels specialists with the Deschutes National Forest and the BLM’s Prineville district have made good progress on their pile burning program this winter, thanks mostly to the delayed onset of winter conditions. That gave them more time to burn piles, leftover from thinning projects designed to reduce hazardous fuels and restore forest health. Smoke may be visible this week from Highway 31 and U.S. Highway 97 south of La Pine. They expect to finish soon.
