Bend, OR – At approximately 7:23 a.m. Thursday morning, December 29th, deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a single vehicle crash into a tree on Cottonwood Road approximately one mile west of Highway 97. A 1998 Chevy Blazer was travelling westbound on Cottonwood Road occupied by a male driver and a Labrador Retriever type dog. The driver lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons while negotiating a slight right hand curve while traveling westbound at this location. The vehicle left the right side of the roadway and drove through tall brush for approximately 200 feet before impacting head on into a large tree about 50 feet off the roadway. A passing motorist located the crash and contacted 911.
Sunriver Fire Department responded to the crash and determined the driver, later identified as Jerome A Krohn, was deceased at the scene. Jerome’s dog died while en route to the veterinarian’s office.
Deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating this incident. Deputies are working to determine if icy roadway conditions, speed and/or alcohol could be factors in this crash.
The Oregon State Police assisted with the initial investigation of this accident. Jerome Krohn’s next of kin has been notified.
